Why did they get rid of these in our kids' gymnasiums? Unsafe? We take the position that not learning these skills is inherently unsafe. With proper training and conditioning, these ropes can be efficiently ascended while carrying heavy loads (like bunker gear, body armour, etc).
Practice the Turkish Getup

Use a 55# dumbell or kettlebell for the turkish getups. If you are new to this exercise - scale down! Look up at your weight during the exercise, keep an active shoulder and a straight arm, and transition hands while in the standing position. The video shows the athlete using a support hand to rise from the ground - try a TGU without this for a harder exercise. The video is also quite deliberate - scale up by doing this movement in one powerful burst after you have practiced it a few times. If you're a beast, try the two handed TGU with two 30# DBs.
